About the artist
Having worked as a digital designer for small and large scales of national and international touring theatre and children opera productions for 5 years, Li-E Chen started her independent artistic projects in 2009 after completing her ‘Step Change’ Leadership development program at the National Theatre, and an artist residency programe at the Chinese Arts Centre, Manchester.
Li-E is interested in bringing together literature, numberical notation and visual art into her performance making. Her works lie beyond the functional, political, traditional, historical, and representational, and that make no reference to self, memory, identity, or meaning. Recent projects included “I am your anti-matter”, “cloud clock love”, “24 hours in dreams”, “I declared, I am invisible now.”, “one year durational laboratory on ‘nothing'”, “A structure of 3 on ‘nothing'” and “nothing political”.
Li-E’s arts practice has influenced by Gille Deleuze, Harold Pinter, Ludwig Wittgenstein, John Cage, Kim Beom, Paul Klee, Robert Wilson, Samuel Beckett, Tehching Hsieh, Trisha Brown, Merce Cunningham and Improbable.
